Figure That Out By Yourself, Sherlock?

Administration Rankles Some With Stance in Handgun Case

Captain Obvious to the rescue:

The Bush administration’s position in the case before the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns has created an unexpected and serious backlash in conservative circles, disappointing gun enthusiasts and creating implications for the presidential campaign.

I don’t know what’s more pathetic … this administration repeatedly stabbing (or attempting to stab - see Miers, Gonzalez, “comprehensive immigration reform”, etc.) conservative principles in the back, or the fact that it has taken some idiots nearly 8 years to realize it.

No Doubt She Was Unarmed

A shot from a .38 on his balls would’ve prevented this:

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A 40-year-old New Hampshire man is facing charges he lured a 24-year-old woman into a vacant apartment and raped her when she refused his sexual advances.

Police charged James Gathright, of Nashua, N.H., with aggravated felonious sexual assault. He also faces charges of sexual assault and criminal restraint from an unrelated incident.

Gathright is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. His bail was set at $50,000.

I don’t know this guy’s height, weight, or physical condition. Ditto for the 24-year old. And if it’s not politically correct to state this, then so be it - I’d guess that 95% of the time, a 24-year old female stands no physical chance whatsoever against a grown man of average height and build. None.

However, a 40 year-old man of average height and build staring face-to-barrel with a loaded, cocked .38 being held by a 24 year-old woman with plenty of practice is dead meat.

Smith & Wesson Purdiness

Commenter and friend Angus Lincoln discovered a little bit of gold not that long ago - proving that being in the right place at the right time can be a very good thing. Look at this beauty:

Smith & Wesson Model 28

Here’s his description:

I also picked up a rare find … a 1977 vintage model 28-2 Highway Patrolman Smith and Wesson, barely fired! It came in the original box with all it’s original paper wrapping and warranty card. Seems an old gent needed to clean out his safe and this one had been forgotten for 30 years! I put it on layaway and didn’t expect to have it before March, but I won $300 in a football pool a couple weeks ago so Merry Christmas to me!

You lucky bastard! I’ve stated before long ago that I wouldn’t consider myself a revolver guy, but damn that’s a fine piece of flawless engineering, isn’t it? And you’re one hell of a photographer!

Here’s another shot just because the thing’s so damn purdy:

Smith & Wesson Highway Patrolman

Damn!

Reply Hazy, Try Again

Via the Dallas Morning News:

U.S., Mexico set sights on stopping flow of weapons to cartels

Faced with spiraling drug violence along the border, senior U.S. officials met with their Mexican counterparts Wednesday and announced steps to stem the flow of illegal weapons into Mexico.

Oooh goody! How about we build a big fence, and shoot upon sight any drug running van that gets near it?

Officials said that many of the weapons – including powerful handguns and semiautomatic assault rifles – are purchased legally at shops and gun shows, and that Houston and Dallas are two of the top sources. The guns are typically carried south across the border by multiple couriers whom some officials referred to as an “army of ants.”

And this is our problem … how exactly? Oh, because we pander to La Raza and are terrified of building a fence. Got it.

Even black-market military-style weapons, such as .50-caliber machine guns, bazookas and grenades, have been seized in raids.

And no doubt they were all purchased legally because of that stupid gun show loophole! DAMN THE EVIL GUN LOBBY!

The increasingly sophisticated and powerful weapons pose a risk on both sides of the border, officials said, but especially in Mexico, where at least 105 people have been killed in drug-related violence since 2008 began.

And THAT is our problem … how exactly?

Drug-trafficking organizations have made life at the border increasingly dangerous,” Michael J. Sullivan, acting director of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said in El Paso. “And this danger extends across the border and into several parts of Mexico.

Raise your hand if you don’t give a shit about Mexico’s problems! And really … we all know this is just posturing by the ATF to look for all the dotted i’s and crossed t’s on legitimate shops in the hopes of shutting them down because of the dangers to our open-borders friends in Mexico. Bleh.

In Mexico City, U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey said the goal of what officials are calling Project Gunrunner is to dry up the cartels’ arms supply in the U.S. by punishing gun dealers who knowingly sell weapons to “straw” buyers who then resell them illegally.

So we’re using Mexico’s problems to shut down American businesses? Hey, you have such a farking problem with it, secure the border so we don’t have to worry about what goes on down there. We have enough of our own problems - like an over-reaching ATF hell-bent on making every firearm seller in this country a criminal.

“I certainly foresee a tightening-up of the way gun dealers distribute guns if, in fact, they are selling to straw purchasers,” Mr. Mukasey said after meeting with his Mexican counterpart, Eduardo Medina Mora, and Mexican President Felipe Calderón.

How about we keep our guns, and you guys keep all of your illegal aliens.

I see tighter enforcement of regulations requiring that they get proper identification and that they check these people before they sell guns, and inevitably we are going to find people who are not doing what they ought to do, and they will be prosecuted,” Mr. Mukasey said in an interview.

“I see?” Are you fucking John Edward now (the psychic, not the socialist)? I’ll bet he was sitting there in his office with his helmet on, violently shaking his magic 8 ball. Here’s the transcript:

Mukasey: “Oh wise and powerful magic 8 ball … can we make sure cops are the only ones with guns?” *shakeshakeshake*

8-ball: “My sources say no.”

Mukasey: “Oh wise and powerful magic 8-ball … can we restrict them enough so nobody can legally own them?” *shakeshakeshake*

8-ball: “My reply is no.”

Mukasey: “Crap. Can we take them all away somehow?” *shakeshake*

8-ball: “Outlook not so good.”

Mukasey: “DAMMIT! Can we ban them all?” *shakeshake*

8-ball: “Concentrate and ask again”

Mukasey: “How ’bout now?” *shake*

8-ball: “Reply hazy, try again.”

Mukasey: “Now?” *shake*

8-ball: “Better not tell you now.”

At which point he probably filths his diaper (PSH is a bitch to live with day in and day out) and hurls the thing through a nearby television set.

Look at this crap:

“The weapons we’re seeing now is stuff normally used for war,” said one ATF official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “These guys are armed to the teeth, probably because they have unlimited budgets.”

Some of the weapons “can take out an airplane,” the official said. “The Mexican narco has come a long way.”

One of the most popular weapons is the FN 57, a Belgian-made handgun known in Mexico as mata policias – “cop killer” – because the bullets can penetrate body armor, the official said.

Ugh. Does the inanity never end?

In a “straw purchase,” the weapons are typically bought for drug traffickers by other people – including friends, relatives and, increasingly, women – who are legally entitled to own a gun in Texas. Mexican officials applauded the announcement.

When I go through the background-check dance, I need to check a box that asks, “are you buying this for someone else.” And you’re wondering why a CRIMINAL has no problem checking the wrong box and lying?

Mr. Mukasey compared the drug traffickers to terrorists for their grisly deeds. “It’s the same kind of message the terrorists send: ‘You will do what we want or else,’ ” he said.

He said the drug violence is likely to get worse before it gets better, because the cartels and their paramilitary hit men are now fighting back against the government crackdown.

I guess we can hope that the war on some guns is just as successful as the war on some drugs.

The Bush administration will lobby Congress to support the so-called Merida Initiative, a program of U.S. assistance for anti-drug operations that would give Mexico $500 million in equipment and training this year as part of a three-year, $1.4 billion package.

This SO EXCEEDINGLY pisses me off it’s beyond words. We’re giving them 1.4 billion to solve their problem and we don’t have the balls or the intestinal fortitude to build a fence, arm some patrols, demand to know immigration status for purchases and criminals and make sure that nobody can go in - or out - of this country across a river, over a hill, or wherever they damn well please. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. 1.4 billion because you’ve got a bunch of murderous thugs in YOUR neighborhood.

You don’t like them buying guns in America?

YOU build the fucking fence.

Where Candidates Stand On Gun Control

From FREEP:

Hillary Clinton

Law-abiding citizens should be able to own guns but laws are needed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Cosponsored legislation to reinstate for 10 years the assault weapons ban.

John Edwards

Has said protecting gun owner rights and working to stop gun crimes can both be achieved. Opposes protecting gun makers from lawsuits holding them liable for gun violence. Supports reinstating assault weapons ban.

Mike Gravel

Supports Second Amendment but believes potential gun owners should be licensed and properly trained before they can own a gun. Supports reinstating assault weapons ban.

Dennis Kucinich

Supports national ban on handguns. Supports reinstating assault weapons ban.

Barack Obama

Wants tighter background checks on gun buyers, making gun locks mandatory, and holding parents criminally responsible for children who injure someone with a gun found at home. Supports reinstating assault weapons ban.

REPUBLICANS

Rudy Giuliani

Has been backing off past support for strong national gun control laws, saying what worked in New York City may not work elsewhere, especially in rural areas. Spokesman’s statement on assault weapons ban: “The best way to deal with gun crime is to prosecute the criminals and enforce the laws already on the books.”

Mike Huckabee

Said he supports Second Amendment and opposes laws that would restrict gun ownership for law-abiding citizens. Opposes reinstating assault weapons ban. Opposes expansion of Brady Bill or ban on any type of ammunition.

Duncan Hunter

“We must vigorously defend against all attempts to chip away at the Second Amendment.” Opposes reinstating assault weapons ban.

John McCain

Opposes gun control, calling it “a proven failure in fighting crime.” Opposes waiting periods to buy firearms. Has supported legislation requiring gun makers to include trigger locks with their products. Opposes reinstating assault weapons ban.

Ron Paul

Says Second Amendment forbids government from infringing upon right to own weapons. Would seek to repeal all federal gun control legislation. Opposes reinstating assault weapons ban.

Mitt Romney

Calls Second Amendment “one of the most basic and fundamental rights of every American.” Says Washington needs to distinguish between lawabiding gun owners and criminals who use guns. Opposes reinstating assault weapons ban but would consider regulation of weapons of “unusual lethality or power.”

Fred Thompson

Says gun control doesn’t reduce crime and prevents law-abiding citizens from defending themselves. Voted against requiring background checks at gun shows. Voted to kill amendment to make it illegal for gun dealers to sell handguns without providing trigger locks. Opposes reinstating assault weapons ban.

As if it wasn’t obvious already … Compare and contrast something like Edwards (Soooooooooo happy that malodorous hunk of legislative crap has absolutely no shot) and Thompson. Romney and his “unusual lethality or power” is code speak for, “anything that looks scary”.

One Foot In The Police-State Door

Boston Herald Editorial: Gun policy a no-brainer:

Word of warning … any time journalists talk about not needing brains, trouble is ahead …

“A police officer should not carry a gun after an allegation of domestic violence.”

With that astoundingly logical statement, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis last week made clear that a cop accused of smacking his wife or her husband around ought not be carrying a gun while the incident is investigated. Other than union leadership, we’re hard-pressed to think of anyone who might disagree.

I would also guess you’re hard pressed to think of ANYONE who would disagree with SWAT teams kicking in doors, and taking all guns out of the home of someone accused of domestic violence - whether cop or not.

Unfortunately, there are women out there who do not have halos above their heads. They’re more than willing out of spite to file a false claim of domestic abuse. So we’re in a situation where it’s a loss of rights due to suspicion, or where it’s innocent until proven guilty.

A prior conviction of domestic abuse? Different story. But if someone’s got a clean record, and there’s an allegation of assault or abuse, you cannot advocate stripping someone of their rights because of it.

Hey, if the PD wants to take away their PD-issued sidearm, go ahead. But oh this is a slippery slope that the folks at the Boston Herald are probably all too excited about screaming “WHEEEEEEE” as they slide down …

Wii Love Gun Pr0n!

The whole “real gun” porn thing is just so overdone, I thought I’d shake things up a little bit. I consider this blog focused mainly on issues of liberty and firearms, so why not continue the storied tradition of profiling guns … but … do it with different guns!

First up, the Magnum!

Wii Magnum

Looks cool enough, though the ratings on Amazon kinda suck. Hmm. Now I know why people don’t profile Wii guns … it’s not like you can have debates over chambering and recoil! Without much else to say … let’s look at the Wii Zapper:

Wii Zapper
Okay then! I like that it has the Nunchuk attachment. Boy this is hard to narrate. Next up, the Wii Perfect Shot:

Wii Perfect Shot
Looks pretty bad-ass to me. You know, I’m not the best person to review these things because a) I’ve never used them and b) I don’t do shooting games on the Wii. Though I should. These suckers are all around $20 which isn’t so bad, perhaps it’s time to pick up one of these things and give it a shot. I remember playing Duck Hunt with the light gun (ooooh, lookit me all old school). I’d get a next-gen shooter for the Wii, but quite honestly with a 360 it doesn’t make sense to get something with comparatively crappy graphics just so I can buy an extra piece of plastic to use with it. I’m sure there’s a bundled up excuse for $49.99 out there somewhere.

Well that’s all for now. Wii Pr0n. I’m simply overjoyed that I’ve been able to post twice about video gaming and twice using the word Pr0n in one day.

Life is complete.
