Imagine The Uproar
Double Standards. Inconvenient little things, aren’t they?
Put yourself back in 2008 for a moment. It’s election day – Obama vs. McCain. Imagine an alternate reality. Imagine, outside a building where people are walking in to vote, there are two white-robed klansmen, holding nightsticks. Staring at everyone walking in. Being confrontational. Not blocking the entrance, but not getting out of your way either.
Maybe you’re a black man. Maybe you’re white. The klansman have an aggressive stance as they eye everyone going in and out.
Would that be considered voter intimidation? Would you think it’s a “weak case” proving that there is voter intimidation?
Now imagine if McCain won that election. Charges are filed against the klan member(s) and then suddenly … inexplicably … a white AG drops the case.
Do you think it would be all over the news?
Would there be protests? Would it be front page on every paper on every newsstand? There’s no way to know, but I think it would.
Interesting when you flip the circumstances in a little thinking exercise. I don’t believe the DOJ is biased, and I don’t believe they showed bias in dropping the New Black Panther suit in the manner they did.
No, not bias. It’s racism. An openly racist act by our federal government refusing to prosecute someone exclusively because of the color of their skin.
But then, in a world where our government erases terminology that goes against the narrative they are attempting to build, changes an entire agency’s purpose to religious outreach, issues a lawsuit against a state inundated with violence and kidnappings, and believes that survivalist-types are the biggest threat to this country …
… well, it’s hardly surprising, is it?
Guess Where I’m Going Tonight?
I’ll be driving down there to see these folks in person to see if any of them are worth a vote. I know very little about the candidates. Here’s a basic rundown:
Jack Kimball – businessman, Tea-Party kind of guy for limited government, reduced spending, etc. Supposedly Chris Christie of the North. We shall see.
John Stephen – He’s got the GOP backing, apparently, which immediately makes me wary of him. Curious to hear what he has to say, I know very little about him.
Karen Testerman – I met her at the NH Tea-Party-Express rally in Concord a few months back. She was very pleasant to speak with. From what I understand, she’s “religious right” (whether that’s accurate or not, I don’t know, but I’ll find out tonight). If that’s the case, she wouldn’t have my vote.
At any rate, it should be an interesting night. I’ve been to political events and I’ve seen up close and personal plenty of politician-folk, but this is the first time I’ll be present at a debate. Very exciting!

The protest was staged by the newly-formed Western Massachusetts Coalition for Palestine, which supports Palestine’s right to self-determination and end to U.S. military aid to Israel. The rally was also held to denounce the Israeli attack on the flotilla trying to break the blockade of Gaza May 31.
it would be awesome
if we could stick these jokers

Congressman Kung Fu
By now, if you haven’t seen this, you’ve been unplugged.
I want to put aside right away, however, the calls about this being another “violent liberal” or “angry Democrat”, blah blah blah.
Nonono. This is the sort of thing that should absolutely transcend party lines. It’s wrong if the guy’s got a D after his name, it’s equally wrong if it’s an R.
What I want to touch on here is the gross double-standard that is at play.
Had that student – upon being grabbed – immediately twisted that man’s arm and planted him firmly face-down upon the cement sidewalk, he would have been completely justified. This Congresscritter does not have a right to know his questioner’s name, but the questioner DOES have a right not to be physically touched for asking a question.
However, we all know what would have happened, had the kid gone all Steven Seagal on him. He would’ve been crucified in the media as an “Angry Teabagger”, assaulting the poor defenseless Congressman. Charges would’ve been brought against him for harassment and battery, and he’d be spending a dozen years and hundreds of thousands in legal fees. Reputation ruined, and permanent police record would be his to enjoy for the rest of his life because he didn’t want another human being aggressively manhandling him for no reason.
That, to me, is disgusting. Meanwhile, this politician would be off the hook because his reaction was the less violent (though not less-wrong).
So as much as it pains me to say it, this guy handled the confrontation the right way for himself. In spite of my urge to see someone twist that Congresscritter’s arm into a pretzel, flatten his face against the ground and aggressively question him as to who in the hell he thinks he really is, it would be the wrong reaction. The right reaction were justice being discussed … but the wrong reaction considering our current society and it’s class of ruling elites.
However, if that student was assaulted by some fetid, urine-soaked vagrant who was ranting about furniture-eating aliens and a government conspiracy to prevent donkeys from consuming maple syrup … and he planted said vagrant face-down on the concrete … I’d guess he wouldn’t get much more than a stern look from any judge.
And that … is truly sad.
Times Are Changing
Live Free or Die. New Hampshire’s motto. Bruce understands it and embodies that spirit in his outlook. Best of luck to you!
Benedict Arlen
So Arlen’s out. Obama-backed candidates lose in VA, NJ, MA, and now PA.
Mind you, Obama carried VA by about 8 points. NJ by about 14, PA by 10 and MA by like 400 … or 25, maybe.
The point being … these were all identified as blue states after the Presidential election, and his endorsement seems to be a kiss-of-death a mere half-term later.
It is said that in Politics, no incumbent may survive an Obama endorsement; and this I can verily believe as I gaze upon him who sitteth for reelection before the citizens.*
Blanche Lincoln is headed for a runoff, Rand Paul wins, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. These are strange times in politics.
One thing’s for certain … we all know November is going to be crazy, but I don’t think anyone’s truly prepared for how crazy things are going to get.

Ticket & A Fine
… but I’m not political royalty who hires a lawyer to fight my traffic tickets.
The attorney for Susan Lynch told the New Hampshire Union Leader that she was driving toward a Concord fire station in November as an ambulance was coming out. Chuck Douglas, her attorney, said she decided to go past the ambulance, rather than stopping.
I’m sure the poor sucker who needed the ambulance would understand that the wife of an elected official has important things to do and that “deciding to go past the ambulance” was just no big deal. As for the rest of us? Well, of COURSE we’d be scumbags. We’re not as important!
