Why No Posting? Because of PAIN.

I don’t know how many of you struggle with various chronic health issues. If you do, you know how bad it sucks to have nearly every minute of your day-to-day taken over by something that feels strangely out of your control.

For me? It’s a pinched nerve. Call it sciatica.

Standing up and walking around? No problem (usually). Staying seated? Not an issue. Laying flat on my back? Simple.

But ask me to get up from sitting, or bend even slightly with a straight leg? Pain. It feels like someone’s carving a channel down your leg right behind your knee. Now, as a thirty-something, I should NOT be unable to tie my own shoes, but that’s pretty much where I am right now. Forget driving altogether. Put me in a car for thirty minutes and I have to work real hard not to scream when I get myself out.

It. Sucks.

I have no idea when I’ll be over it, but until then expect moderate “holiday-style” scrawlings from yours truly. I have no health insurance (and unlike most voters, don’t want it bequeathed upon me by our new lord and master at your expense), which means “creative management” of health issues and the human body. Advil does a marvelous job at masking the pain, a Chiropractor does a great job at “readjusting” my spine, but neither of those actually fix anything. I may be stuck in this place for awhile.

So if you manage to wake up in the morning and feel pretty good - minor bumps and bruises aside - cherish it.

This ain’t Bill Clinton but I feel your pain.

Started out last Sunday with mine. Horizontal no pain but standing, sitting, and walking don’t happen much and hurt. At least I can get out bed without help. For a while, I couldn’t get out of bed with help.

    Good luck

Worst thing is there’s pretty much nothing to do other than ice it and hope for the best. Why the hell do I need the nerve anyway? Can’t they just rip that out non-invasive-style? :-)

I’ve got a bayonet. And there’s a blogger gathering coming up at a brew pub.

    Just sayin’.

SRSLY, hope you feel better soon…

All I need to do is find a life-sized Laa-Laa suit, down some Jack Daniels to mask the pain, put on some angry music, and you can have at it. Providing I can survive the drive there, that is.

Jack Daniels helps, and it gives you a perfectly legitimate reason to maintain a buzz all day.

For me, 15 min in a super hot bath will usually take the edge off. Be careful with the Chiropractors; sometimes the adjusting is extremely harmful. Ask me how I know that!

I hope you feel better soon!

I’ve been there and back,(npi). I had the benefit of some insurance at the time and ended up with taking cortisone shots to shrink some swollen disk material that was pinching some nerves. That allowed some relief of pain enough so that I could get on with some physical therapy from home such as lots of stretching, walking and bike riding. If your problem begins with a bulging disk, try to minimize the pain with ibuprofen and then do your best to strengthen your lower back muscles with low impact exercise/stretching. Simple treatments like walking can make a huge difference.
Good luck with it…I know what your going through; it takes time however.

I don’t know if there is worse pain out there. If there is, I’ve been fortunate enough not to experience it. Sit down, lean over a bit to do something, straighten back up, experience pain so severe you want to scream in an unmanly way. I’ve been lucky not to feel it for several years, but the memory is always out there.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.
