Time to Start Shooting?
I realize this is a highly taboo topic. The Mrs. and I were having a discussion regarding it recently and I figured I’d throw it out here. There was a lot of discussion recently between a couple of well-known bloggers over the whole “when to start shooting” thing. Also recently, if you haven’t been living under a cave, you’ll recall that taxpayers just forked over a few hundred billion dollars to the federal government in order to bail out a bunch of companies in a sort of socialist, pork-filled orgy.
And if you watched the markets yesterday, you’ll realize that - surprise, surprise - the government made it worse. Now the markets tank AND we don’t have a few hundred billion dollars.
We didn’t have the advantage of putting this to a nationwide vote, but I’m guessing if you DID allow people to vote on the bailout that a majority would’ve told Wall Street, Fannie, Freddy, and Barney Frank to go fuck themselves sideways with a pitchfork.
That would indicate that our elite elected officials essentially made a decision on their own - against the wishes of the majority - to taketh away what they already tooketh from us in taxes and use it to spread around like lard on that big crap sandwich. Personally, I feel that constitutes deception, fraud, and theft. Something many politicians are more than willing to engage in to further their own personal agenda and keep the money flowing.
So the question came up. Is it time to start shooting? Personally, I don’t believe it is. But, and that’s a BIG but, I think we’re closer now than we’ve ever been to that time, and I think the upcoming election could get us closer still.
Imagine President Obama. An announcement that Bush “did it wrong” and that an additional bailout is needed. A Democratic majority with a Dem pres and the MSM in it’s honeymoon stage not willing to take socialist logic to task. Now picture an additional 700 billion needed to “stop the bleeding of the past four years of the prior administration’s incompetence”. Imagine these elected officials believing they know what’s best (what else is new), regardless of the opposition from those “brainwashed by the past four years”.
Doesn’t sound so far-fetched, does it? All of a sudden it’s our “patriotic duty” to save the world from financial collapse. I can see Obama’s speech quite clearly, “Our men and women have fought valiantly all over the world to promote freedom and stability, now each American must step up to the plate and do their duty …”
To bail out the world, perhaps?
A grim view? Sure. But the reality is, right now we’re in a bigger, shittier mess than 9 innings of colostomy-bag-baseball. It stinks to high heaven, everyone’s covered in it, and it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better.
So where’s the “start shooting” tipping point? Rather - when do you think a first shot is going to be fired? Not by you, but by someone who’s pushed over the edge and takes aim - quite literally - at one of our elected officials?
Would another 700b seizure bring the sound of a shot?
What about an additional bailout and a declaration of martial law to avoid “irrational reaction” in this “grave state of emergency”?
Orwellian? Sure. But unfortunately not too far fetched.
Looking to next year, Democratic lawmakers are planning to revamp financial-system regulations, with hedge funds, private-equity funds and investment banks all likely to come in for tighter scrutiny. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D, Calif.) portrayed the legislation as “only the beginning” of the legislative response to the faltering economy…
“We will be back next year to do some serious surgery,” said House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D., Mass.). Mr. Frank wants legislation to rewrite housing finance — including the roles of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – and overhaul regulation of financial services.
Martial law? Silly you say? Maybe not …
Congressman Brad Sherman of California’s 27th congressional district told the House in a speech on Thurs evening that several fellow Congressional representatives have said they were threatened with the prospect ‘Martial Law’ should they vote in opposition to the $700 billion bailout.
So … in your estimation … where’s the tipping point? When exactly is this Government tyrannical?
Webster defines tyranny as:
1: oppressive power
; especially : oppressive power exerted by government 2 a: a government in which absolute power is vested in a single ruler ; especially : one characteristic of an ancient Greek city-state b: the office, authority, and administration of a tyrant
3: a rigorous condition imposed by some outside agency or force
Can you see any of those occurring in an Obama administration?
I can.

Well said Liberty.
I too believe we are not ready to push the reset button just yet, but it seems every move the feddle gummint makes pushes us closer to the switch.
I also believe that, barring some wacky discovery (October surprise), the Barry will not be elected- I have faith in the integrity of the American people (notsomuch so the gummint) not to be completely fooled by the empty suit. Hmmm… I sense a blog post here…

Hit the reset button? Nah..I don’t believe that it will come down to shots fired, at least not at one of the elected officials at the Federal level.
What I *do* think will happen, and its really not very far-fetched, is that a few States…the truly patriotic states in the Union, will secede. It will be those truly red, ultra-conservative states. I can see a line of states seceding, pretty much along the lines of those states that support individual rights as opposed to collective rights. I’ll predict here that the states to secede will be:
Texas (They have oil)
Florida (They have retirees with money)
West Virginia (They have coal. And guns)
New Hampshire (They have…granite.)
Utah (They actually have oil too…)
New Mexico (They have a surprising lack of Mexicans)
Montana (Moose!)
Idaho (Taters!)
the Dakota’s (Steer…ie: Loads-o-beef!)
Tennessee (Jack Daniels!)
Kentucky (Jim Beam!)
Pennsylvania (The Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall…as the real patriots, we get to keep those.)
All the Territories (Guam, Samoa, Virgin Islands, etc.)
Arizona (lots of mobsters in Arizona)
Alaska (they’ll do it just because they have the oil that the Libs refused to pump, they’ll pump it, sell it to the United Socialist States, and all the native Eskimo’s will build palatial McMansions.)

One need look no further than New Orleans to know that shots will not be fired.
Door-to-door, the stormtroopers went. Door-to-door, they took legally owned, lawful weapons from law-abiding citizens. Door-to-door.
And the most menace they encountered was Patricia Konie. Other than her showing her empty revolver, the JBTs didn’t take a single round incoming.
If that wasn’t the time for it, there will never be…

I need to correct my earlier response…we don’t need to worry about Obambi…we need to worry about the enemy within.
The US Gov’t is toying with the idea of buying up failing banks (or getting ownership stakes in them) with the notion that because they will own parts of the banks, the taxpayer will benefit when the banks become profitable again because the government will have an additional income stream…bank profits.
And who jumped right onboard *that* brilliant idea? No other than Chucky Cheese Schumer himself. I guess he wanted to get the jump on Kennedy, and beat him to the Socialist punch. Or punchbowl. Or arsenic-laced Kool-aid bowl.
If the US citizenry doesn’t stand up and demand that this idea gets flushed down the toilet, we’re fucking doomed.

Dunno. It seems that even with an Obama win, the momentum is all in our favor. Of course we can’t trust him, but I actually believe him when he says “Even if I wanted to take them, I wouldn’t have the votes.”
The Democratic coalition is held together with duct tape and bailing wire. Even a shift of a couple percent would cause it to spin apart. Gun owners would be mad enough to spit nails, which would do it.
Even if I’m wrong here, there’s a good chance that the Democrats would think that this is true. Perception is reality, and the perception is that anyone who runs as a gun grabber in all but the most liberal, urban areas will get a big ol’ clingy can of whup ass opened up on them.
IMHO, the Dems think they have a lot bigger fish to fry than guns.

Honestly, the states will probably start seceding first. The fedgov will spend itself into invalidity before it gets a chance to unify against those would would do it harm.
States will stop receiving their “free” money from the fedgov for everything from highways to healthcare assistance, and the states will get busy signals when they call the fedgov. Then the states will do some SERIOUS budget restructuring to cope with the lack of federal monies. Then they’ll just forget about the fed. States will feel burned by the gov, and strive to be more independent. If the fedgov ever recovers, and tries to return to the state to impose its will, they’ll be told to fuck off.
