I'd save that project for a rainy day. I mean, you never know when you might have a need for a dirt floor space in your basement; like for example, if you ever needed to get rid of something for a long time; you could bury it and at that point, you could pour cement over it. I'm just sayin' it could come in handy someday. Waste not, want not!

Heh. Trade ya!

Problem is, it's in the worst place - middle of the basement, short side against the concrete. If they'd shoved it in a corner, I'd keep it, but I can't standing having this damn thing smack in the middle of a big basement effectively cutting it in half. Argh!

Man, it just figgers...

I've got a concrete cellar, part of which I'm trying to engineer into a root cellar.
*sigh*

ANYway, I'd dig it out a few inches, fill w/crushed stone, & pour a cap on that flush with the rest of the floor. Leave a small gap around the patch for expansion.

But then again, you might want to consider a root cellar- it's just another way to "be prepared" like a good scout...
