What Would Happen If …

Someone carrying on a college campus - where there is a law against concealed carry - was able to stop a psycho intent on slaughtering anyone he got near?

How hard do you think they’d throw the book at the lawbreaker in spite of stopping the crime. Has there been a clear-cut situation like this in recent times?

If the case is cut-and-dry self-defense, (especially at a school, where many people are quite aware of the threat of suicidal shooters) I don’t think a prosecutor would pursue charges. Unless the prosecutor wanted to be lynched by an angry mob. Some particularly misguided ones might go so far as to initiate charges, but after the heat comes on, I’m sure they’d back off.

If there was some question about the self-defense nature, then all bets are off, but in these recent scenarios, I can’t see that being the case.

I wonder about that. Would certainly make things interesting - would the NYT blare about the illegally-carried hidden gun, or would they bury the story on page 492 or better yet just not run with it.

    Media sucks.

Something similar to what you’re describing happened in NYC a while back. An elderly woman was walking her dog (I think she was in a wheelchair) when some scumbag tried to rob her. She drew a handgun and shot the scumbag in the shoulder. Needless to say, she was not licensed to carry a concealed weapon in NYC.

The city declined to press charges, and told the press she was on her way to the range for some target shooting. I think that’s what she told the cops when they responded.

F***ing hypocrites should have brought her up on charges, then the world could see what a bunch of fascists assholes they are.

No one wanted to be the one to bring down the pistol packing granny who just perforated a street thug.

Of course non of the statist pricks involved said what she did was a good thing, either.

I’ll try to dig up the link.

    New York Times (9/9/06):

The police said that Ms. Johnson did not have a criminal record and was not facing any charges. The permit she has for her gun allows her to have it in her home and to transport it to a range, which is what she was doing, they said.

    Yeah…right.

I seriously think it would depend on where the incident took place. New York prosecuted a man for shooting an intruder in his child’s room with a gun that happened to be unregistered.

If it was here in VA, I’d say the defender would probably skate.

If it was in DC, he’d be in jail getting his anus ripped apart by bubba.
