One Foot In The Police-State Door

Boston Herald Editorial: Gun policy a no-brainer:

Word of warning … any time journalists talk about not needing brains, trouble is ahead …

“A police officer should not carry a gun after an allegation of domestic violence.”

With that astoundingly logical statement, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis last week made clear that a cop accused of smacking his wife or her husband around ought not be carrying a gun while the incident is investigated. Other than union leadership, we’re hard-pressed to think of anyone who might disagree.

I would also guess you’re hard pressed to think of ANYONE who would disagree with SWAT teams kicking in doors, and taking all guns out of the home of someone accused of domestic violence - whether cop or not.

Unfortunately, there are women out there who do not have halos above their heads. They’re more than willing out of spite to file a false claim of domestic abuse. So we’re in a situation where it’s a loss of rights due to suspicion, or where it’s innocent until proven guilty.

A prior conviction of domestic abuse? Different story. But if someone’s got a clean record, and there’s an allegation of assault or abuse, you cannot advocate stripping someone of their rights because of it.

Hey, if the PD wants to take away their PD-issued sidearm, go ahead. But oh this is a slippery slope that the folks at the Boston Herald are probably all too excited about screaming “WHEEEEEEE” as they slide down …
